Pidgin 2.6.1 su Ubuntu con audio/video per Google Talk
Questa versione implementa l’audio/video sul protocollo XMPP, quello di Google Talk per intenderci.
Installazione da repository (con funzione audio/video)
1. Rimuovere il vecchio Pidgin:
sudo apt-get purge pidgin libpurple0 libpurple-bin pidgin-data
Questo rimuoverà anche eventuali pacchetti contenenti plugin di pidgin. Segnatevi i nomi.
2. Aggiungete il seguenti repository tramite “sorgenti software”
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
3. Aggiungete la chiave:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys A1F196A8
4. Aggiornate:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
5. reinstallate Pidgin:
sudo apt-get install pidgin
5.1 reinstallate gli eventuali plugin che avevate
6. Nelle opzioni dell’account gtalk (xmpp) in pidgin inserite talk.google.com nella voce server di connessione dalla tab avanzate
6.1 Da Strumenti > Preferenze > Rete impostate uno STUN server, ad esempio stun.ekiga.org
7. Aprite una chat con un contatto gtalk. Provate dal menu conversazione>media ad avviare l’audio o il video o entrambi. Per ora sono riuscito solo a metà con l’audio. No no , funziona proprio tutto 😀

Ciao a tutti. Vorrei sottoporvi un paio di questioni/osservazioni:
1) Avendo da sempre i repos di Launchpad, non ho avuto voglia di rimuovere Pidgin prima di fargli fare l’aggiornamento alla 2.6.1. Secondo voi sarebbe stato necessario?
2) Se nelle opzioni dell’account metto “talk.gmail.com”, semplicemente non riesce a connettersi. Ho messo “talk.google.com” e va.
3) Purtroppo, uso poco pidgin, ma, da quel poco che ho potuto verificare, la chat audio/video non va, nel senso che le corrispondenti voci in Media non sono selezionabili. Qualche idea?

ciao, io ho seguito la tua guida ma ho dei problemi.
Se chiamo un mio amico (che chatta da firefox su mac os x) , io vedo lui (e me stesso) ma lui non vede mè. (in compenso ci sentiamo entrambi).
se prova a chiamarmi lui ed io rispondo, a lui viene un errore.
Se si connette usando safari, non posso neanche chiamarlo (le voci sotto “media” sono in grigio”)

Intervengo a un anno e mezzo di tempo quindi forse inutilmente, comunque il pallino blu indica che il contatto è connesso via web, ad esempio con ebuddy (fonte: old nabble).
